This is the part that we viewers saw of Michelle Obama’s speech. “You are special. You all have lived lives that make you incredibly special young individuals. As military kids you have learned lessons and have experiences people don’t have in their entire lifetimes.  Like your parents you all are the very best this country has to offer.  You are role models not just for kids but for adults and for all Americans who want to see what patriotism, sacrifice, and service really looks like. That’s why we’re here.”

Good friends Ellen DeGeneres and First Lady Michelle Obama surprised the audience when Obama announced, “And now here’s where the fun begins. I’d like to announce that we have a special surprise guest who is about to join us. She is someone I’m proud to call a friend.”

“She’s so amazed by your service that she’s going to put you on her TV show live,” said Obama.

Ellen asked how Joining Forces was doing as this is their one year anniversary.  “Joining Forces is our national initiative to make sure that all Americans honor our troops, veterans, and families,” said the First Lady.

“And that’s why I’m here to give them a special thank you,” said Ellen.

The motto for Joining Forces is that everyone can do something. “Doing what you do best but doing it for military families and finding out what they need,” said Obama.

Ellen asked if she could speak to some of the young ladies in the audience, who Obama was very impressed with.  “Oh my we’ve got some great beautiful young ladies.  They’re just gorgeous.”

One of the young girls, named Kiana, told Ellen that her mom is currently serving overseas. “Mom calls the house a few times a week. It reminds me of her voice,” said Kiana.

With prom arriving shortly, Ellen had a wonderful idea for the young kids.  All students  received a 250 dollar gift card courtesy of JCPenny.

Ellen closed her interview with the First Lady stating, “Mrs. Obama you know I admire you. You’re an amazing, amazing woman.”
